lazy boys don't stand a chance

lessons learned

Today I tried to weigh my cat with my digital food scale.  Isn’t working at home great?  I wondered aloud, “Has she gained or lost weight since her last vet visit?  Why don’t we just find out.”  Of course, my digital food scale is small, and my cat is large, so I had to place something on the food scale, and then place my cat in or on that something.

I am proud to present for you:

A Ranking of Container Options for Weighing Cats with Food Scales

3rd place - Aluminum Mixing Bowl - overall score 2/10.  I thought the cat might fit just perfectly in this large bowl, but she was not very excited, some might say actively unexcited about being placed in it.  Her body recoiled as I lowered her towards the shiny bowl.  Unsuccessful.

2nd place - Wooden Cutting Board - overall score 4/10.  The cat was fine with being placed on this board, but could step off so easily that it was impossible to get a reading from the scale.  I washed the board afterwards.  Unsuccessful.

1st place and Winner - Cardboard Box - overall score 8/10.  Cats naturally and instinctively like cardboard boxes.  Maybe they evolved near cardboard box caves in the Middle East, I don’t know.  The only problem was that the box was large enough that it made it difficult to read the digital scale, but after shifting it around a bit this was overcome.  My cat weighs 9.75 lbs.
