lazy boys don't stand a chance

In approximately 2001, Gregory and I made these T-shirts because of something Carl Steadman wrote on his blog (I can’t find it, now), but it occurs to me now that perhaps he was in turn referring to Douglas Coupland:


The latter picture of Matt Haughey ran as an accompanying photograph to this article in the NY Times.  I remember driving with Gregory to north Philadelphia, under the El tracks, to the T-shirt printing place — they didn’t get the joke and thought we were weird.  It probably wasn’t far from where I live now, in Fishtown, but it felt like another world to me at the time.  I regret that we got so many shirts sized L and XL, and not enough S and Ms — there was still a lingering tendency from the 90s for people to wear clothes too big.  My XL is pretty much unwearable except as a sleep shirt these days.
